Why does the characters on my SVGA screen look jagged?
All ChemBook™ 6800 have SVGA screens, which displays at 800 by 600. Since
the display mode for both Windows Graphics Mode and DOS mode is standard VGA,
displaying at 640 by 480, you will see either one of two conditions.
- The display covers the entire screen, and the characters seem jagged,
not smooth.
- The display covers only part of the screen, leaving about 1/2 inch
border around the display.
To switch between the two modes, you can either press the hot-key
combination Fn+F3, or enable/disable the Video Expansion Mode in the BIOS.
To display normal characters and graphics at full screen, you will need to
install the device drivers and change the display resolution to 800 by 600.
Follow the Installation Procedures to
install the drivers.
Why was the floppy drive disabled automatically in the BIOS when I use a
secondary battery?
To prevent the floppy drive from being disabled automatically in the BIOS
when you insert a second battery, please update the BIOS
to version 5-07 or above.
Why doesn't the 6800 BIOS detect my Toshiba hard drive?
If you have either of the following Toshiba hard disk drives, please
disable LBA mode in the BIOS so that they may be automatically detected.
The model numbers are:
- HDD 2718 / MK2104MAV (2167MB)
- HDD 2912 / MK3205MAV (3053MB)
Update : This problem has been solved with BIOS version 05-20 or later.
Please download the latest BIOS update here.
Why doesn't the CD-ROM appear as a device in My Computer or Device Manager
in Windows 98?
Please download and update to BIOS version 05-29D or 05-29T for Dual Scan
or TFT, respectively. Then, follow these steps:
- Go to Control Panel / System / Device Manager.
- Click on the + sign next to Hard Disk Controllers.
- You should see Standard Dual PCI IDE Controller as one of the devices.
Click on it, then click on Properties.
- Click on the Settings tab.
- Change Dual IDE Channel Settings from Default to Both. Then click on OK.
- You will be asked to restart the computer. After Windows has restarted,
the CD-ROM will appear as a valid device.
Why can't I enable the "Suspend to Disk" feature in BIOS when
system is docked on a PCI docking station?
Since the AC power is usually turned on when system is docked on the
docking station, it is illogical to shut down the power of the docking station
by performing "Suspend to Disk". However, The functionality of
"Suspend to DRAM" is still available when system is docked.
What kind of PCI cards can I install in the full docking station for 6800?

Where is the user's manual for my 6800?
The users manual has been condensed so that it fits in the case of the
Device Driver CD-ROM. The manual contains the essential, including the CPU
jumper setting and BIOS settings. A more detailed users manual can be found
online in the CD-ROM, as well as all device drivers and a Multimedia
demonstration for the ChemBook™ 6800.
Can I use the y-shaped splitter cable with the PS/2
Port on the 6800?
The 6800 does not support the PS/2 Y-cable. If you wish to use both the
external keyboard and external mouse, please use an external serial mouse, and
connect the keyboard to the PS/2 port with the keyboard adapter cable.
How do I enable the Embedded Numeric Keypad?
