Network Cards

Model DOS/Windows 3.1 Windows'95
D-Link DE-650 pass pass
3COM 3C589B pass pass
IBM Ethernet Card pass pass

DOS Environment Setup Procedure:

  1. In CMOS BIOS\Components\Audio IRQ, DMA, set the Audio IRQ=7 or 9(default is 5)
  2. Run SiS PCMCIA Driver setup.exe in Windows3.1
  3. Modify C:\CardWiz\CARDID.INI file, set LAN1IRQ=5
  4. Reboot.
3COM 3C589 PCMCIA Network card
At DOS prompt, type:
  • LSL--- Provided by Novell
  • 3C589--- Provided by card manufacturer
  • IPXODI--- Provided by Novell
  • VLM --- Provided by Novell
Note: Only after you load 3C589, you can get the correct card information through CARDINFO
IC-CARD(D-Link DE-650)
At DOS prompt,
  1. Copy A:\IBMPC\INSTALL\CardSoft\ICARD.CLB to C:\CardWiz
  2. Edit C:\CardWiz\CARDID.INI file,
    • add CardLib=ICARD.CLB at the top of library file list
  3. Reboot system and at DOS prompt, type:
    • LSL--- Provided by Novell
    • ICARDODI--- Provided by card manufacturer
    • IPXODI--- Provided by Novell
    • VLM --- Provided by Novell
Note: You can get the correct card information through CARDINFO without additional driver.
IBM Ethernet Card(NatSemi NE4100 Infomover or compatible)
  1. Edit C:\CardWiz\CARDID.INI file, remark CardLib=IBMLAN.CLB
  2. Reboot system and at DOS prompt, type :
    • LSL--- Provided by Novell
    • PCMDMCS--- Provided by card manufacturer
    • IPXODI--- Provided by Novell
    • VLM--- Provided by Novell
Note: Only after you load PCMDMCS, you can get the correct card information through CARDINFO

Windows 3.11 for Workgroup Setup:

  1. In Windows, double-click Network group icon.
  2. Double-click Network Setup icon. Click "Networks..." button and choose "Install Windows support for the following Network only:", from the list, select "Novell NetWare [Workstation Shell 4.0 and above]" or "Novell NetWare [Workstation Shell 3.X]".
  3. Click "OK" and follow the instruction on the screen to complete the setup.
  4. Re-boot the system.

Windows'95 Environment Setup:

3COM 3C589 PCMCIA Network card
IBM Ethernet Card(NatSemi NE4100 Infomover or compatible)
  • Just plug in the card and Windows'95 will configure everything for you.

IC-CARD(D-Link DE-650)
  • Plug in the card and choose "select from a list of alternative drivers" when prompted, select Network Adaptors\D-Link Corporation\D-Link DE-650 PCMCIA Ethernet Card.

Premax Ethernet Card
  1. Since SiS chipset is PCIC compatible, no additional software is needed. Plug the network card in the socket, system will search for the new hardware.
  2. In the "New Hardware Found" window, it will show "PMX -PE-200". Put the driver disk coming with the network card in drive A:\. Choose "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" and type the file path to be "A:\win95". Click "ok" on the next screen.
  3. Hook up network cable and restart Windows'95. In Windows'95, open "Network Neighborhood" icon and your server will show on the screen.

Modem Cards in Windows'95

EXP ThinFax 288 PCMCIA V.34 Fax/Modem
  • Plug in the card, it will be recognized and configured by Windows'95 automatically.

Generic 28.8 PCMCIA V.34 Fax/Modem
  1. Plug in the card and at "New Hardware Found" window,
  2. If you have a fax/modem driver comes with the fax/modem package, insert the diskette in A:\ and press [enter]
  3. If you do NOT have a driver comes with the fax/modem package, choose "select from a list of alternative drivers". Select Manufacturer: [Standard Modem Types]\Standard 28800 bps.
