What's new in the latest BIOS Update?

The newest BIOS versions for ChemBook™ 2700 is version R1.13.

Version:R1.13 Date:August 12, 1998
This version has been released to fix the following problems:
  1. Windows Protection Problems after installing Windows 98.
  2. Windows 98 does not resume from suspend-to-RAM mode.

This version has been released to fix the following problems:
  1. Added support for Year 2000 compliance.

This version has been released to fix the following problems:
  1. Musi CD-ROM access time has been adjusted.
  2. added support for Trident 9385-1 4MB VGA RAM
  3. Fixed problem where on a system with 128MB system RAM, suspend-to-disk with hotkey will freeze the system.
  4. Added support for Intel® Pentium® Processor.
  5. Fixed ECP Parallel port problem of printer driver not detected.

This version has been released to fix the following problems:
  1. Fixed the problem where in DOS mode, when the user presses any hot key combination, the system occasionally freezes up.
  2. Fixed problem with ECP parallel port device detection. (SCT 5.40 test)

This version has been released to fix the following problems:
  1. Fixed the problem where if SCU password is set, reboot and re-enter SCU, mouse does not work.
  2. Fixed the problem where if PCMCIA card in slot A is inserted and working, the LCD board does not show active.
  3. Fixed the problem when PMU is enabled, the system time becomes inaccurate after standby or suspend modes.

How do I update the BIOS on the 2700?

To update the BIOS on the 2700 to the newest version, follow this procedure :

  1. Download the BIOS update file from the 2700 FTP download page.
  2. Run the downloaded executable to extract the files in the archive.
  3. Boot up from a system disk. Make certain that no memory manager was loaded.
  4. From the directory where the extracted files are located, type "miflash x.x", where x.x is the file name of the BIOS file.
  5. The flash program will start to load the file. After it is loaded, press B to begin.
  6. Make certain that the program is not interrupted for any reason. Restart the computer when prompted.

 

Where can I find the jumper settings for the ChemBook™ 2700?

The CPU jumper settings for the 2700 is not included in the manual, but should appear on an addendum to the manual. Here are the jumper settings.

Can I upgrade my 2700 from 2MB Video RAM to 4MB?

Since ChemBook™ 2700 motherboards supporting 4MB video RAM are distinctly different from that which supports 2MB Video RAM, it is not possible to upgrade existing 2MB boards to 4MB. Therefore there will not be any video RAM upgrade services offered for the ChemBook™ 2700.

 

Why do I get Windows Protection Errors during Windows 98 bootup?

Please follow these steps to solve the Windows Protection Error problem in Windows 98:

  1. During boot up, press F2 to enter System Configuration Utility (BIOS Setup).
  2. Go to Power / Custom settings
  3. Set Disk Time Out to Disable.
  4. Save Settings and reboot the system.

 

What are the functions of the Hot Keys?

Does my 2700 support Battery Online Charge?

The ChemBook™ 2700 does not support online charge for its batteries, neither in the notebook or on the mini docking station. To charge the battery, you will need to either turn the computer off, or to enable the suspend mode.

 

Why doesn't Windows 98 boot up with a PCMCIA card in the top slot?

You will need to update the O2 Micro 6832 PCMCIA Driver for Windows 98. Go to FTP Download page to download the file.
